Israeli settler seeks to beat Netanyahu in primary (AP)

JERUSALEM ? A hard-line Jewish settler who wants to pay Palestinians to leave the West Bank and Gaza is running against Israel's prime minister in Tuesday's party primary election.

Moshe Feiglin has little chance of defeating Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but he could deliver an embarrassing blow to the country's leader in his fourth try for leadership of the Likud, none of which have had a realistic shot at success.

Experts say Feiglin could get a third of the vote in the closed party primary, reflecting the view of hard-liners that Netanyahu, despite his uncompromising worldwide, is not hawkish enough.

"I am providing an alternative," said Feiglin, 49. "The world expects ... much more than creating a terrorist country right in the heart of the land of the Bible," referring to a Palestinian state in the West Bank.

Israeli nationalists believe the West Bank must remain under Israeli control for religious and security reasons. Though Netanyahu backed that view for years, his movement has edged toward compromise in recent years, and Netanyahu himself has accepted the concept of creating a Palestinian state.

Feiglin founded a nationalist movement that blocked highway intersections around the country in 1995 to protest partial peace accords between Israel and the Palestinians, and he opposes further peace talks.

Feiglin proposes annexing the West Bank, retaking Gaza ? Israel withdrew in 2005 ? and bolstering a Jewish majority by offering emigration incentive packages of $350,000 to each Arab family in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Such extreme positions have the backing of a small but noisy minority of Israelis.

Netanyahu called the snap leadership primary in his Likud Party a year ahead of schedule, raising the possibility of an early general election later this year.

Netanyahu is so popular that no Likud Cabinet ministers or lawmakers dared challenge him, leaving Feiglin as the only other candidate.

Feiglin has steadily gained support over the last three times he has run for Likud party leadership ? from winning 3.5 percent of the vote in his first campaign nine years ago, to scooping up nearly a quarter of the vote in 2007.

Analysts are divided about how the underdog would affect the ruling party.

Avraham Diskin, a Hebrew University political scientist, said the stronger Feiglin performs in the primaries, the more Netanyahu will strive to portray a moderate face to the party by endorsing less hawkish lawmakers around him, he said.

"It doesn't look like (Netanyahu) will give in to the extremists," Diskin said.

Analyst Yaron Ezrahi says if Feiglin wins more than 30 percent of the votes in the primaries, it could push the Likud party's base further right politically and weaken Netanyahu's claim that the ruling party represents the majority of the nation.

"It's very serious. It hurts the Likud's image," Ezrahi said. He called Feiglin's camp an "embarrassing minority" for Netanyahu.

Feiglin's expected gains in Tuesday's primaries come as religious nationalists are preparing for a showdown with the government over plans to evict the unauthorized Migron settlement, which the government says was built on unlawfully seized land from private Palestinian landowners in 2001.

Hard-line lawmakers are threatening to bolt Netanyahu's coalition if Migron is dismantled, and Feiglin's campaign could add more pressure to Netanyahu to find a solution that will satisfy the settlers.

"Netanyahu is fighting a war of survival. But there is no survival without a vision," said Feiglin. "He is losing credit."

With Americans holed up in Cairo embassy, Egypt's lobbyists in DC quit

It takes a lot to get K Street to distance itself from a regime. Egypt's ruling military junta has manged the feat by investigating a group of American NGO workers for criminal prosecution.

On Sunday, a group of Egyptian officers landed in the US to lobby for their annual $1.3 billion stipend form Congress to keep flowing. Not coincidentally, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta called Egypt's military ruler, Field Marshall Mohammed Tantawi, to ask a little favor at about the same time. Would he please lift the travel ban on a group of Americans working on democracy promotion in Egypt??

The answer, apparently, was no. Tonight the Americans, a group of employees for the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), are holed up in the US Embassy in Cairo, avoiding possible arrest.

One of them is Sam LaHood, IRI's Egypt director and the son of US President Barack Obama's Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. The US-funded groups' offices were raided in December, cash and equipment confiscated by armed Egyptian security officers.? A number of their local executives have been banned from leaving Egypt pending a criminal investigation, and the US Embassy has taken the group in on concerns that further measures will be taken against them.

How badly are Egypt's military rulers handling the relationship with the US? This badly: The lobbyists representing Egypt's interests in DC, led by former Representatives Robert Livingston (R) of Louisiana and Toby Moffet (D) of Connecticut, dropped their $90,000 a month contract a few days ago. The two former Congressmen had stuck with Egypt as Mubarak refused to step down last January, as the military killed and jailed protesters throughout the course of last year, and even defended the December NGO raids. But the direct targeting of the Americans, most with ties to the DC establishment, was a bridge too far.

Egypt's aggressive moves against IRI, NDI and others reflects the longstanding desire of Egypt's rulers, whether the junta running the show now or Hosni Mubarak before them, to control money flowing to domestic groups. Egypt has refused to grant operating licenses to either IRI or NDI despite multiple requests -- yet has allowed them to operate mostly unmolested (except for shutting them down for a time in 2006) for years.

Egypt describes its investigation into the groups for illegally funding Egyptian NGO's as a matter of national sovereignty. But spearheading the movement against the NGOs has been Minister of International Cooperation Fayza Abul Naga, who has for years pushed for America's economic aid to Egypt to be put into an endowment fully under Egypt's control, without preconditions.

Ms. Abul Naga demanded the criminal investigations that led to the raids. When she served Mubarak, her concern was the prevent the flow of foreign money to pro-democracy groups and regime opponents, something she was largely successful at. And if Egypt had simply been interested in restricting the activities of the NGOs, there would have been much less provocative means of going about it.

Egypt's funding is now on the line. While the $1.3 billion per year has generally been treated like an annuity, the Egyptian officers currently in the States are going to get an earful when they make their case for cash in Washington (and without their long time lobbyists to help out). Expect a climbdown by Abul Naga and her bosses in SCAF.

North claims 23-13 Senior Bowl victory

Asa Jackson, Nigel Bradham

By JOHN ZENOR

updated 8:34 p.m. ET Jan. 28, 2012

MOBILE, Ala. - Isaiah Pead took a stutter step forward, then raced to the left sideline and traveled 60 yards up the field before finally getting tripped up by a leg tackle.

The former Cincinnati running back followed that nifty punt return with a 38-yarder a couple of minutes later, late in the first half, to play a starring role Saturday in the North's 23-13 victory over the South in the Senior Bowl.

The first one set up a field goal and helped Pead outshine bigger names to earn Most Valuable Player honors.

"(Coach) told me what the punt return call was, left, right or in the middle, and told me to make sure I set my blocks up or the play would be dead," said Pead, who set a Senior Bowl record with 98 yards on punt returns. "I tried to do that the best that I could. The rest was just ability."

Michigan State's Kirk Cousins and Wisconsin's Russell Wilson threw touchdown passes for the North. Purdue kicker Carson Wiggs put it away with his third short field goal, a 28-yarder with 4:11 left in the showcase for senior NFL prospects.

Boise State's Kellen Moore led that clinching 13-play drive that consumed 8:36 with the help of a running clock.

It snuffed out a spark provided by South quarterback Nick Foles of Arizona, who started his career with Cousins at Michigan State.

Foles had gotten the South into the end zone by firing a 20-yard touchdown pass to Arizona teammate Juron Criner with 12:55 left in the game.

It was an up-and-down day for a crew of quarterbacks with sparkling college credentials, but threw a combined five interceptions.

It was mostly up for Pead, who only had 74 yards on eight punt returns as a senior. The 5-foot-10, 193-pounder did rush for 1,338 yards and 12 touchdowns and gained a team-high 31 yards on eight carries in the Senior Bowl.

"I think he may have opened some eyes," said Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier, who led the North. "Some people may have wondered if he can do certain things. I think he may have answered some questions today.

Cousins completed 5 of 11 passes for 115 yards but threw an interception. Moore, who won an college-record 50 games as a starting quarterback, was 6-of-12 passing for 50 yards, and had a 23-yarder to set up the final field goal that put the North up two scores.

Wilson completed 4 of 7 passes for 45 yards with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Jones in the second quarter. He also threw an interception.

"I think I did a really good job, besides the interception," Wilson said. "You never want to throw an interception obviously. I think I waited a little bit too long on that one. Other than that, I came back. I had amnesia and just forgot about it and got the ball in the end zone there."

Arkansas receiver Joe Adams, the South's Most Outstanding Player, had eight catches for 133 yards after losing a fumble on the opening drive. He had a 36-yarder and a 29-yarder in the third quarter.

Criner gained 77 yards on six catches.

Linebacker Bobby Wagner of Utah State had seven tackles and an interception and was the North's Most Outstanding Player.

"We were just getting after it, having fun out here," said North defensive lineman Mike Martin of Michigan. "The scheme was real simple so it was just guys playing with effort and intensity."

Wiggs made kicks of 27, 32 and 28 yards while missing a 37-yarder in the final minutes.

Foles almost got the South back in it earlier, but his fourth-down pass from the 13 was incomplete with 3:59 left in the third quarter.

He had the best stat line of the six quarterbacks. Foles was 11-of-15 passing for 136 yards and the TD, and was the only South quarterback who wasn't picked off.

San Diego State's Ryan Lindley was 10 of 21 for 103 yards and also was intercepted once. Oklahoma State's 28-year-old Brandon Weeden started for the South but was picked off twice on nine attempts, completing five passes for 56 yards.

Cousins put the North ahead 20-6 early in the second half with a 41-yard touchdown pass to Arizona State's Gerell Robinson. The 6-foot-3, 223-pound Robinson caught it coming across the middle and raced down the right sideline.

It was the second time on the drive Cousins had thrown for a nice gain on third down, hitting T.J. Graham (North Carolina State) for 22 yards earlier.

The North's Kendall Reyes of Connecticut had two sacks.

Fear Factor Donkey Stunt Goes Beyond Tasteless

Pardon the pun, but I have a feeling this stunt is not going to be as tasteless as the idea of having it in the first place. If you haven?t heard about it yet, finish drinking or chewing anything you might have in your mouth before reading any more. Fear Factor has obviously made its return to NBC, and they are apparently having a hard time coming up with anything worthwhile. I used to love the show, but I always struggled with the eating stunts. I?m not sure what it proves that you can eat something like bull testicles, or pig eyeballs or whatever, but this particular stunt is too much. They are dropping to the level of Jackass?literally. Contestants on an episode set to air Monday will be made to drink an entire beer glass full of donkey semen, but that?s just the beginning. Apparently they will also chug a glass of urine right after it. Now I?ve seen all kinds of things on the show, like drinking an entire raw ostrich egg. That?s actually very gross, but it doesn?t cross the line of creepy like this one does. What?s even more amazing is that there is a group [...]

Bill Gates Gives $750M To AIDS Fund

GATES: Well, the most exciting thing I learned when I was just getting into philanthropy was that, if you reduce childhood deaths, if you improve health in a society, that, surprisingly, population growth goes down. And that's because a parent needs to have some children survive into adulthood to take care of them when they're old.

And so, if they think having six children is what they need to do to have at least two survive, that's what they'll do. And amazingly, across the entire world, as health improves, then the population growth actually is reduced.

And there's a miracle intervention, which is vaccines. In 1960, over 20 million children died. In 2005, less than 10 million died. And that's despite much larger global population.

That is huge progress. And a lot of that is because these vaccinations are being given broadly, over half of that improvement. Another part is from economic development.

And so, even in the poorest countries, we should go in and give them a malaria vaccine, and give them vaccines for diarrheal diseases. And if a mother wants to limit her family size, give her the tools that let her have that possibility.

So, I think we owe it even to the poorest billion to give them a chance.

That's not to say I agree with his population growth bit, or even that his apparently somewhat paradoxical reasoning works out if you run the numbers, but it seems that his motivation to improve people's lives is good, whether or not a larger anti-population-growth rationale makes any sense.

93% Pina

All Critics (69) | Top Critics (19) | Fresh (62) | Rotten (5) | DVD (1)

This meditation on movement and space, transportation and transcendence is not to be missed.

What the filmmaker has created is an inspired simulacrum - a jewel-box that contains more of Bausch's kinetic soul than film has any right to.

Crane and steadycam allow Wenders to get so close to the action that in the minimalist Caf? M?ller, one's illusion of being on stage is uncanny.

"Pina"is the best possible tribute to Bausch, and to adventurous image-making.

I watched the film in a sort of reverie.

Whether you're familiar with Pina Bausch's work or not, the new film "Pina" is a knockout.

This seems like a ripping good idea. In practice, "Pina" turns out to have a few problems.

Suggests thrilling new possibilities for the marriage of movies and dance.

Even for someone who would rather count sheep than attend a ballet, these scenes are nothing short of astonishing, beautifully presenting dance's ability to depict words.

You won't hear the names Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, Paul Taylor or Bob Fosse breathed herein.

An exhilarating experience, both in its celebration of Bausch's groundbreaking work and in the thrilling way that Wenders captures it on camera.

It's not an overview of Bausch's career or a statement on her art, but a celebration of her work and the dancers who bring it to life.

This is a stunning film, a glorious homage to modern dance and one of its premier authors and the best justification of 3D technology to date.

With a breakout use of 3D for artistic rather than solely commercial blockbuster purposes, German director Wim Wenders gives extraordinary life to the work of choreographer Pina Bausch.

Protester in Bahrain dies after arrest (AP)

MANAMA, Bahrain ? Bahrain authorities say a detainee has died after being taken into custody during clashes between security forces and Shiite-led protesters.

Thursday's statement by the Interior Ministry says public prosecutors are investigating the death. About 40 people have died in nearly a year of nonstop unrest between Bahrain's Sunni monarchy and the island kingdom's majority Shiites seeking a greater voice in government and security affairs.

The brief statement gave no further details on the death, but said the detainee was hospitalized and accused of "vandalism" during widespread demonstrations on Wednesday.

Bahrain is home to the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet.

Rebecca Hall rolls dice with movie "Lay The Favorite" (Reuters)

PARK CITY, Utah (Reuters) ? British actress Rebecca Hall spent a year convincing director Stephen Frears she should star in his new film, playing the comedic role of a free-spirited, seemingly ditzy Florida stripper aspiring to make it as a cocktail waitress in Vegas.

But she had two big problems: one, she never performed in a role like it before, and two, Frears was looking for an actress who was exactly the opposite of Hall. Her gamble appears to have paid off, however. Reviews of "Lay the Favorite" following its Sundance Film Festival premiere on Sunday have been mixed, but Hall has earned much praise.

"I had not shown that kind of range," Hall told Reuters in an interview with Frears following the debut of "Lay The Favorite." "I thought, I love this part, I would kill to do it. But I don't believe that anyone is going to cast me in it."

Hall, 29, captured Hollywood's eye playing an uptight American in Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," and later in crime thriller "The Town," but her first meeting with British director Frears did not go so well.

"He said, 'You are everything I am not looking for and I will never cast you.' And then I was like a dog with a bone after that. That was it."

Sitting beside her, Frears smiled. "It's a humiliating story," he agreed.

ROLL OF THE DICE

"Lay the Favorite" is based on Beth Raymer's unusual sports gambling memoir of the same title released in 2010. The film shows Raymer (Hall) traveling to Las Vegas and struggling to change her life. Then, she meets fast-talking Dink (Bruce Willis) who shows her the ropes of his sports gambling business where she discovers a gift for numbers and beating the odds.

Hall's full transformation caught the Sundance audience by surprise when the real-life Raymer -- high-pitched voice, giggling and twirling her hair exactly as Hall had just displayed on the big screen -- took to the stage, causing one audience member to ask how the Cambridge-educated Hall did it?

"It was a big stretch for me," Hall told Reuters later. "I knew I had to have a different physical life and a different vocal life and a different energy that operates on a different frequency to my own. It was very liberating."

While Frears initially balked, he said it was clear from Hall's first audition that no one else could play Raymer.

"I can't tell you an American actress who could've done it. I can see that Meryl (Streep) could have done it 30 years ago, because really you need someone with theatrical training," he said. "It was very demanding."

Hall has won early praise for the role alongside Willis and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The Hollywood Reporter critic Todd McCarthy noted "the great craft and skill Hall brings to such an unexpected characterization" and wrote audiences would likely "do a double-take upon first laying eyes on her here."

The actress, the daughter of a prominent English theater director and an American opera singer, spent months befriending and studying Raymer, who shares a writing credit for the film.

The two women might seem worlds apart but are now "very, very good friends," Hall said. "It's a peculiar thing because obviously I played her in a movie so it was an intense relationship ... She was so sort of unfazed by the idea of someone playing her, she was just excited."

Frears, 70, said he chose to direct the film, which has been compared to screwball comedies and to his 1990 film "The Grifters," because Raymer's story "didn't repeat formulas."

The director of "The Queen" and "Hi Fidelity" said he considered the movie "the most American film I have ever made." He said it was far more than a sports-betting movie, once the audience looked underneath its extroverted, offbeat exterior.

"I actually think it is quite a wise film beneath the exterior, rather like Beth," he said.

Iranian film in running for foreign language Oscar (AP)

LONDON ? A taut domestic drama from Iran is competing against a Belgian thriller, a true Polish tale from the Holocaust and dramas from Canada and Israel in the Academy Awards race for best foreign-language film.

Nominees announced Tuesday in Los Angeles include "A Separation," the story of a marital breakdown and its far-reaching consequences from Iranian writer-director Asghar Farhadi.

The widely praised film ? being hailed by some as a vital cultural bridge at a time of souring relations between Iran and the West ? has already won the Golden Globe for best foreign language film, and also gained Farhadi an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

It's up against "Footnote," a mordant tale of rivalry between father-son Talmudic scholars by Israel's Joseph Cedar, and "Bullhead," a Belgian crime drama set amid the world of cattle rearing and hormone dealing by first-time feature director Michael R. Roskam.

"Bullhead" producer Bart Van Langendonck welcomed the recognition for a film that "was written so it could be appreciated all over the world, even if the theme of the cattle mafia is extremely Belgian."

The nominees also include the gritty, realistic "In Darkness" by Poland's Agnieszka Holland, based on the true story of Leopold Socha, a Polish petty criminal who hid Jews from the Nazis in the sewage canals of Lviv during World War II.

It's a third Oscar nomination for 63-year-old Holland, one of the country's best-known directors, after "Europa Europa" and "Angry Harvest," both of which also dealt with the Holocaust.

The final contender is "Monsieur Lazhar," the story of an Algerian immigrant substitute teacher who helps a group of children get over a death by Canada's Philippe Falardeau.

It's the second straight year a filmmaker from Quebec has made the shortlist. Denis Villeneuve was nominated last year for his war drama "Incendies."

This year's Oscars contest already has an international flavor. The race is led by Martin Scorsese's Parisian fantasia "Hugo," with 11 nominations, and "The Artist," a French-made silent tale of old Hollywood, with 10.

Winners of the 84th annual Oscars will be announced at a Feb. 26 ceremony at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.

Heidi Klum & Seal Divorce? What?

Heidi Klum & Seal to divorce? What the heck? I certainly did not see that one coming. For a couple whose marriage I thought for sure would endure forever, I’m quite surprised that these two are reportedly dunzo. What happened? According to TMZ, Klum will reportedly file divorce papers sometime next week in L.A. Superior Court. As for the reason behind their split, the supermodel has cited the ever popular “irreconcilable differences”. Reps for both Klum and Seal have been mum since news that Heidi will file for divorce from the “Kiss From a Rose” singer broke this morning. So what do you think happened between these two? They have long been known as quite the loving couple, and watching them together during interviews, you could see how in love with each other these two were. Each year, on their anniversary, the two would renew their vows, in celebration of their love. On December 27th, Heidi tweeted a pic of herself and Seal while on vacation in Aspen. Could that trip have been a “make it or break it” for the couple? The last time the two were reportedly seen together was on January 7th, with kids in tow while [...]

Romney Newtered

Mitt Romney, who has been married to his first and only wife for more than 40 years, got only 22 percent of the evangelical vote, half of Gingrich's share (though double his 2008 performance).
?
Evangelical voters did not see Gingrich's personal shortcomings as an impediment. Neither did women, who also voted for him over Romney. South Carolina Republican strategists have scratched their heads a little at this. "These are people who judged Bill Clinton," said one Republican strategist about social values voters. But the consensus view among those in GOP politics here is that Republican voters had already discounted Gingrich's personal failings. One poll also suggested that Republicans did not believe the latest charges from Gingrich's ex-wife.

The nation's weather (AP)

Wet and snowy weather will persist in the West as snow returns Sunday to the Northern Plains and upper Midwest. A strong low pressure system spinning over the Pacific will push another cold front onshore throughout the day. This system will bring rain showers to the Pacific Northwest and northern California, with heavy snow showers expected in the mountains. The Cascades may see 3 to 7 inches of new snow, and the Sierra Nevadas another 7 to 9 inches of snow.

Strong winds will develop ahead of this front, with gusts from 35 to 45 mph, up to 75 mph at the highest mountain peaks. High wind and winter weather advisories remain in effect in these areas.

Elsewhere, a low pressure system over the central and northern Rockies will advance eastward into the Plains, producing 1 to 3 inches of snow across the Dakotas and upper Midwest. Late Sunday, a cold front will develop south of this system, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to the Mississippi River Valley. There is a slight chance storms will turn severe in the Tennessee Valley and mid-Mississippi River valley. The back side of this system will spread lingering snow showers over the Rockies.

The East Coast will see a break in wet weather as a low pressure system and associated frontal boundary moves offshore into the Atlantic. High pressure will build over the Northeast and extend down the East Coast, allowing for a dry and mild day before another system quickly approaches from the central U.S.

Temperatures in the lower 48 states ranged Saturday from a morning low of -25 degrees at Land O' Lakes, Wis., to a high of 91 degrees at Bonifay, Fla.

Veterinarians emphasize importance of sterilizing pets, especially in ...

Consider this: One pair of un-sterilized cats, together with their offspring, can result in 420,000 kittens in seven years.?One pair of un-sterilized dogs, with their offspring, can result in 4,372 puppies in the same time frame.

Statistics also show that only one out of nine of these animals finds a good home, leaving the rest to suffer abandonment and/or euthanasia.

For years, pet owners have questioned whether to spay or neuter their pets. However, history and research show that there are many pros to having your pets spayed or neutered.???

Whether ?pets are kept indoors or out, there are many health and behavioral benefits associated with spaying and neutering, says Dr. Lynn Ruoff, clinical associate professor at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Longtime southTempeveterinarian Dr. Thomas Gus, who operatesUniversityAnimalHospitalonsouth Hardy Drive, agrees with the advice.

?From a behavioral standpoint, it definitely reduces the roaming behaviors and territorial aggression (in both cats and dogs),? Gus said.

The obvious benefit of spaying and neutering is population control, lowering the number of stray abandoned dogs and cats in local neighborhoods and streets. And, unfortunately, with the struggling economy and other factors affecting residents, more and more dogs and cats are being turned over shelters or put to death, Gus said.

?The number of cats and dogs being put in shelters or euthanized has absolutely increased (compared to past years),? Gus said. ?Oftentimes it?s near universities, where students end up moving away after graduating and leaving their pets behind.?

Gus estimates that 75 percent of dog and cat owners in the immediate area of his clinic spay or neuter their pets, not only to make them sterile but to avoid health risks as their pets grow up.

?For male dogs, (neutering) reduces the risk of prostate cancer and eliminates the risk of testicular cancer,? he said.

?In female dogs, it prevents urinary tract infections and, what?s probably the best advantage, is it eliminates breast cancer ? taking it to almost zero probability if you spay before their first heat cycle, which is 6 to 12 months of age.?

Female dogs, Gus said, are three times as likely as humans to develop breast cancer.

?As far as female cats go, you save having to put innocent animals to death,? he said. ?Female cats are in heat for a week every two to three weeks, so it can literally seem like they are always in heat.?

Because female cats are in heat more often than dogs, a significantly larger amount of stray cats are born per year than dogs, Gus added.

Male cats that are not neutered are often much more aggressive and can increase their territory, traveling farther away from home and becoming vulnerable to other disease-carrying, stray animals.

Male dogs are less likely to mark their territory, especially inside homes.

Gus said Maricopa County Rabies Animal Control and the Humane Society are the two main organizations to which stray dogs and cats can be reported.

Other, privately funded groups have begun local rescue projects, but Gus said the problem of unspayed, unneutered pets has continued to grow.

"This year's nominees enlighten and entertain, while spotlighting the diversity of our community. Audiences expect to see their own worlds reflected in media, and today more than ever, those include the lives of LGBT people. Khloe Kardashian denies fertility treatment

Khloe Kardashian Odom is already a doting aunt. And now she's ready to be a doting mom.

But as for speculation that she is currently seeking fertility treatment in her new adopted hometown of Dallas?

MORE: See inside Khloe and Lamar's new Dallas pad!

Khloe herself took to Twitter to discount the Radar Online report:

"Because there is so much speculation here is my statement ... I am not at this time in my life considering any type of fertility treatments. If and when I do, I will shout it from the rooftops but for now its in Gods hands."

According to our source, Lamar Odom's wife of two years is "trying very hard" to get pregnant, though there's no word on exactly what options the 27-year-old has considered.

For her part, Khloe has always been open about her desire to start a family.

Shortly after their one-year anniversary, back in the fall of 2010, Khloe and Lamar told E! News that they were already working on adding to their family.

And just last month, a Twitter follower implored the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star to "please have beautiful babies soon!!" To which Khloe replied, "I'm waiting on the big man upstairs to bless us with that blessing ;)"

Final Four: Rick Perry Ends Campaign Two Days Before S.C. Primary (ContributorNetwork)

Reuters reports Texas Gov. Rick Perry has dropped out of the 2012 GOP nominating race for president. Perry endorsed Newt Gingrich as the person who is the best choice to try to defeat President Barack Obama in November's general election. The move comes after Perry finished fifth in the Iowa caucus and sixth in the New Hampshire primary, both according to the New York Times. That leaves Mitt Romney, Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Rep. Ron Paul as the four remaining GOP candidates to square off in the South Carolina presidential preference primary, set for Jan. 21.

Here are some of the more interesting quotes said by Perry along the campaign trail, now that his candidacy has come to an end.

"This campaign has never been about the candidates. I ran for president because I love America. This mission is greater than any one man."

-- Part of Perry's speech he made as he dropped out of the race. USA Today reports that Perry believed in the "cause of conservatism" when he endorsed Gingrich.

"I came to South Carolina because I will not sit back and accept the path America is on because a great country requires a better direction because a renewed nation needs a new president. It is time to get America working again and that's why with the support of my family and the unwavering belief of the goodness of America I declare for you today that I'm a candidate for President of the United States."

-- Perry's announcement in South Carolina that he was running for president . The announcement came on Aug. 13, 2011, the same day as the Iowa caucus. ABC News reported Perry is the longest-serving governor currently in office in the United States.

"It's three agencies of government when I get there that are gone - Commerce, Education and the um, what's the third one there? Let's see. Oh five - Commerce, Education and the um, um.... The third agency of government I would do away with - the education, the uh, the commerce and let's see. I can't the third one. I can't. Sorry Oops."

-- Perry's most famous gaffe he made at a debate in Michigan on Nov. 9. ABC News stated he was responding to a question about what government departments he would do away with and he couldn't remember what he had said earlier on the campaign trail. Romney tried to help him by saying the EPA, but that was wrong. The third department Perry wanted to do away with is the Department of Energy.

"I never struggled with that at all. The state of Texas has a very thoughtful a very clear process in place. If you come into our state and you kill one of our children (or a police officer)....you will face the ultimate justice in the state of Texas and that is you will be executed."

-- The candidate's response to a debate question on Sept. 7. The audience at the Politico debate applauded Perry's answer as to why Texas has so many executions of prisoners . In response to the applause, Perry claimed that "Americans understand justice."

Debt Reduction

Debt reduction can help you eliminate debt faster by reducing the amount of money that you are required to pay on a particular debt. To reduce debt, you can contact a professional debt reduction service or you can try handling the debt reduction process on your own.

How Debt Reduction Works

Because creditors hate bad debt write-offs, most are willing to settle for getting a portion of the money they are owed. In some cases, creditors may be willing to accept as little as 40% of the total money owed to them. To arrange a debt reduction or debt settlement, you will need to contact your creditors with a reduced debt proposal.

It is a good idea to begin with the creditors who control your high-interest or large balance debt. Many will accept your debt reduction proposal immediately, but others may not be as willing to negotiate. If you are having a hard time arranging a debt reduction plan on your own, you may want to consider contacting a professional debt reduction service. Many services specialize in debt reduction proposals and may have an established relationship with your current creditors.

Choosing a Debt Reduction Service

If you do decide to go with a professional debt reduction service, you can choose one on your own or you could ask your creditors for a referral. There are also many websites online that recommend debt reduction services. Take time to research all of your options and carefully compare fees and the services that are being offered before making a decision. You don't want to spend all of the money you will save by reducing your debts on debt reduction service fees.

How Does Jon Huntsman's Withdrawal Affect the Presidential Race? (ContributorNetwork)

COMMENTARY | Jon Huntsman, the former governor of Utah and former ambassador to China, has decided to withdraw from the race for president and to throw his support behind Mitt Romney, according to the Washington Post. It was all in all a concession to reality.

Huntsman, though he certainly had the experience in foreign and domestic policy to be president, never quite was able to justify the idea of his being president. He ran as a moderate, a curious strategy considering the conservative nature of the Republican electorate. Romney is considered a moderate by many. Indeed that has been an accusation in campaign ads by his opponents. But even Romney is running to the right, emphasizing cutting government and taxes as his main issues.

The polls have not been kind to Huntsman. Nationwide, he is in the low single digits, according to Gallup Tracking. He is at 5 percent in South Carolina in the latest Rasmussen poll.

Huntsman was an also-ran in Iowa, with 0.6 percent, due to the fact he did not contest the Iowa caucus. He came in third in New Hampshire, getting 16.9 percent behind Ron Paul and Romney.

In the end, there was no path to victory for Huntsman. The smooth, moderate, Mandarin speaking politician lacked widespread appeal, especially in the southern states with primaries coming up. It just took him until today to realize what most people had already concluded.

The question arises, who does Huntsman's withdrawal benefit? The obvious answer would be Romney, who is touted as a candidate who can appeal to the same kind of moderate independents that Huntsman had in his corner.

Ed Morrissey at Hot Air doubts Huntsman's withdrawal will have much of an impact at all. His support was almost nonexistent and consisted of disaffected Democrats, some of them who still seem to like Obama and hate the tea party.

On the other hand, those Democrats will remain disaffected with or without Huntsman in the race. Where will they go? Perhaps to Romney in the end. Or they may just stay home on Election Day, not being enthused about any candidate.

French president: Credit downgrade changes nothing

MADRID (AP) ? French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Monday shrugged off his country's loss of its prized AAA debt rating, saying the downgrade by rating agency Standard & Poor's would change nothing.

The comments, his first since S&P lowered its score on France and eight European other countries on Friday, followed a successful auction by France of euro8.6 billion ($10.9 billion) in short-term debt Monday. The yields, the interest rates charged by investors on the debt, fell ? a sign investors still see the country as a good bet.

France won a further small reprieve Monday, when the Moody's agency confirmed that it would keep its top rating. However, the S&P decision could seriously impair Sarkozy's bid for re-election this spring.

Sarkozy told reporters he was unconcerned with the opinions of ratings agencies.

"We have to react to this (the downgrade) with calm, by taking a step back," he said at a news conference with the new Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. "At the core, my conviction is that it changes nothing."

Sarkozy won support from Rajoy for a new European tax on financial transactions being pushed by France and Germany. Rajoy's center-right government took power last month, and had not previously stated its position on the tax.

The French president said the ratings agencies' decisions would not affect his policies, though he did acknowledge that France has work to do, saying that its deficits and spending were too high and that its growth was too slow.

He also noted that two of the three major agencies still rate France at triple-A, the highest rating. Fitch confirmed the rating last week. The S&P move was especially brutal for France, one of the world's biggest economies and a financier of bailouts for smaller, poorer eurozone countries.

There are more government auctions in Europe this week, including longer-term offerings from France on Thursday, so the European debt crisis will never be too far from investors' minds.

The news conference began combatively when Sarkozy refused to answer a question about whether France's downgrade would affect its ability to lead Europe out of the crisis and if it had any connection with the meeting between the French, Italian and German leaders scheduled for next week being postponed.

Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have taken the lead in proposing solutions to the crisis and major decisions are often hashed out at their meetings ahead of European summits.

"You don't have the latest information," Sarkozy blithely told the reporter, apparently referring to Moody's decision on Monday. The reporter rephrased the question two more times, but Sarkozy again refused to answer.

Later on, in response to other questions, he confirmed that the three-way summit would take place in February and spoke about the S&P downgrade.

Earlier, Sarkozy met with Spanish King Juan Carlos, who said he's confident France and Spain would help Europe find a way out of the crisis.

The king said the two nations were "struggling together for the advance of a unified and prosperous Europe in solidarity that confronts the crisis with strength."

Rajoy's Socialist predecessor also supported the financial tax championed by Sarkozy, but was ousted from office by Spaniards angry about the country's hurting economy and high unemployment.

The European Commission has estimated that the tax could raise as much as euro57 billion ($72.2 billion) a year, funds that could be used to help reduce the substantial budget deficits crippling European economies.

For the tax to be successful, however, it needs to be adopted by as many countries as possible. Sarkozy has said it might be enough to enact it among the 17-nation euro countries. Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti prefers applying it across the full 27-nation European Union, but that would be more difficult because of U.K. opposition.

Part of the reason for the tax would be to raise funds at a time when governments are struggling with high debts.

Moody's cited France's economic strength as a reason for affirming its top rating but said bleak growth prospects in France and the region present "risks to the French government's fiscal consolidation plans."

"France, like other eurozone sovereigns, may face a number of challenges in the coming months. The need to provide additional support to other European sovereigns or to its own banking system cannot be excluded," Moody's warned.

Moody's said Monday it "will update the market during the first quarter of 2012 as part of the initiative to revisit the overall architecture of our sovereign ratings in the EU."

Sarkozy's challengers for the presidency have seized on the S&P downgrade as evidence that his policies are wrong-headed and ineffective.

It will be a bruising election battle for Sarkozy, a dynamic leader who has a strong international profile but is widely disliked at home. Leftists say he has coddled the rich, while many of those who supported him in his 2007 campaign say he hasn't fulfilled his promises.
